After spending the morning (getting lost) in Antalya with a Spanish dude I met on my night bus we got on an overcrowded stiflingly hot shuttle bus to Olympos. I was jammed in the back seat with a turkish family and after waking from a quick nap they insisted on feeding me with apple slices and pistachios and having a great time laughing at my inability to open them properly.
After we checked into our respective hostels I chilled out on the beach for a bit before we explored some of the Olympos ruins including a castle overlooking the bay. In the evening we walked to chimera which are some some fires that have been burning for at east 2500 years. That took a good 1.5 hours just to walk to the gate so after hiking to the eternal flames and back we managed to swindle a ride back with a local tour company instead of hiking back at 11.30pm.
I am now officially one third of the way through this project and have had a full on couple of weeks, so I have decided to take the next week or so easy to avoid getting burnt out, or getting sick from excessive lost sleep and too much drinking. My hostel here is really cheap, includes breakfast and lunch, the beach in nice, the sun is out, the water is warm so I figure here is as good as anywhere to chill out. Also there are all of the ruins around to keep me entertained in between. Look out book, I’m going to read the shit out of you!
