I am now in the small Albanian city of Shkodra for a night or two. After a walk around the city I rounded up a couple of other people from the hostel to take a walk up to the Castle to watch the sunset. At the castle we met Flaures (pronounced Flowers). He was walking his dog in the castle and ended up giving us a tour of the castle. It turned out he walks his dog in the castle every night to meet and talk to tourists to improve his english. He also gave the 3 of us a lift back to our hostel after the sun set.
Back in the hostel a group of about 10 of us went out to a new restaurant that had just opened up. A photojournalist who is investigating the Albanian Blood Feuds filled us all in on the situation. Another dude is a programmer who has been traveling by bike and blow up raft around the world for the past 6 years. The hostel owners boyfriends entire family are all deaf and he has been teaching sign language and another couple told us about their adventures in the albanian alps… People like this make traveling really interesting.
Just as we climbed to the top of the castle we were greeted with this perfect silhouette.
