Stuff and Things!! Today we had a sort of reverse culture shock in the metropolis of Panama. As you can see this city could not be any more of a stark contrast to every city I have explored in Cuba over the past 40 days. When we entered a shop we were blown away by the sheer number and variety of products you could buy all in the one store, the lack of “lines” and the excellent customer service. It was capitalist consumer whore heaven!
We bought all things that Cuban stores wouldn’t even be able to comprehend including aloe vera drinks, good tweezers, tissues, real deodorant, dumplings, super glue and sushi. Mmmm, Sushi how I have missed you.
We spent most of the day sitting in the hostel trying to figure out how to escape Panama. We had a boat booked to take us island hopping down to Columbia but because of Cubas Gmail block I never received the cancellation email until today.
While in Cuba I totalled only 5 hours online and while it was nice to have an internet detox for over 5 weeks it is so incredibly convenient to be able to use my own computer, log into and send emails, chat with friends and Family through Facebook, continue learning Spanish in my free time and most importantly be able to google and research travel stuff. Oh how I have missed you Internet.
