Day-255

Today we had to do our best to dodge an onslaught of water bombs, super soakers, drive by’s and buckets of water at the Carnaval de Cajamarca.

We decided to just chill in town today. After watching the weekly military ceremony in the morning it wasn’t long until we noticed a lot of kids carrying buckets of water, water pistols and water bombs around the city. It turned out we hadn’t missed the fiesta day/night when we were locked in our hotel after all.

The entire city centre turned into a water and paint war zone all day. Toward the end of the day all the participants ended up in the main square where several marching bands converged, kids split into groups and danced, marched and jumped around to try and keep warm in their soaking clothes. I would have liked to get closer to get some better shots, but we had already been targeted on the way to the “safe zone” by a couple of drive by’s, and stepping even a few meters away from the safety of a nearby hotel and police officers would have definitely resulted in a ruined camera.
