Day-267

Another photo from Paracas National Park. (too) Early this morning we took a boat ride out to see a huge ancient rock carving of something that looks like a candle holder, however it’s exact origin is unknown but thought to be from 200BC. Then the boat took us to circle the Islas Ballestas to see the dramatic rocky island landscape, millions of birds perched on the cliffs and circling above, Penguins staring at us curiously and the huge colonies of stinky, grunting and lazy sea lions. At one point we witnessed some male sea lions fighting over territory and tiny sea lion pups getting trampled in the scuffles which was sad but interesting.

After the tour we decided to head out to some pre-incan ruins we had heard of a few hours away called Tambo Colorado. We reached the ruins via a super slow collectivo, but the trip was well worth it. Along with the lone ticket booth officer we were the only ones there. The ruins are like a huge winding maze inside and the best preserved ruins on the Peruvian coast. Visiting the ruins doesn’t require a guide or any form of supervision to visit which is good, but unfortunately this also means the ruins have been subjected to decades of idiots carving their names into the ancient ruins. There are also sections where the original colour remains on the walls, but unfortunately these have especially been targeted by said idiots.

People suck. No one cares who you are and when you were further ruining ruins. If you deface ancient ruins you are the ultimate douche bag.
