This area of Chile has the clearest skies anywhere in the world. That is why it is home to the worlds largest telescope array in the Atacama Desert and why tonnes of people flock here to stargaze. Unsurprisingly you can do all kinds of stargazing tours from San Pedro De Atacama. We wanted to do another one which had 10 different telescopes, but it was sold out for several nights so we settled on a cheaper one which had only 2 telescopes.
I had really wanted to spend a night in the desert doing some star trails but unfortunately the moon is almost full here at the moment which makes star trail photography impossible, so instead I set up my camera to take some still shots of the milky way, telescope and the awesomely powerful green laser pointer the astrologist used to point out stars, planets, constellations and nebulas. Unfortunately facebook will probably compress the crap out of the photo and show every spec of noise, so it will prob look terrible but meh. Oh, by the way, the Southern Cross is all upside down and shit on this side of the planet.
