Ahh, the realities of independent travel. I thought about using a photo from yesterday and telling you all I went into Venice today and had another amazing day exploring the canals, but that would be a lie.
When actually I have been cooped up in my hostel for the past 7 hours eating grapes, drinking beer, trying to build a map, figure out where want to go, how to get there, finding hostels, sending out couch requests etc. plus all the complexities of doing it all just using the Rail network to make use of my Rail pass. Also I have been procrastinating by editing some other photos 🙂
I bought a 15 days out of 2 months EU Rail pass before I got to Europe and I am now kinda regretting doing so. I got it because I thought it would save me money and give me the freedom and flexibility to jump on a train whenever and wherever I wanted, but it has actually been the opposite.
Most trains require a seat reservation, especially in France, Spain and Italy and the reservations also cost money on top of the rail pass. Sometimes there aren’t seats left to reserve, and you sometimes still have to wait in huge lines like a sucker.
Because my pass expires soon and I still have 8 trips left on it I need to plan my next few weeks and keep moving every 3-4 days to get my moneys worth and use it up before it expires which really isn’t the way I like to travel.
So today I sat down to try and plan my next few weeks in Eastern Europe and travel only using the Rail network… which sucks in Eastern Europe. Sigh. Well I am off to Bled for one night in Slovenia, and then 2 nights in the Capital before heading to Croatia and then down into Serbia… I think… Still not 100 percent sure. Yep, a productive day.
