Day-95

AUSTRALIANS ARE TAKING OVER! When traveling through Europe in Summer you come across A LOT of other Aussies escaping the disgusting winter back home, especially Melbournians. Today was probably my record for me meeting the most Aussies in one day (not including meeting large groups travelling together).

Luckily none of them turned out to be the young, loud, disrespectful, annoying obnoxious Aussies you encounter and cringe at. After drinking with a Sydneyite, a Pom and another Melbournian for my final night in Venice I awoke early this morning to board my train for Slovenia. To get across the Italian/Slovenian border you have to change train stations and either catch a bus/taxi or walk the 4 km to the other station.

As the train conductor was telling me this two other english speaking passengers overheard the conversation and joined in as they were doing the same thing. So I ended up splitting a taxi with an artist and interpretive dancer from Sydeny to the other station and rode out the rest of the train trip with them.

Once off the train I checked into my hostel in Bled and then set off to find an ATM in the pouring rain. On the way I asked a couple for directions and they just happened to be going in the same direction. Noticing the Australian accent they were sporting it turned out they were from Brisbane.

After a few hours of hiking some trails I found myself overlooking Lake Bled from the best viewpoint in the area. After 5 minutes a girl appeared beside me, and after talking for a few minutes it turned out she was a teacher from Melbourne, and just down the road in Carlton!

Well if you cant escape them join em’. We ended up finishing the hike together, she fell in the mud, the we rented a swan and clumsily paddled it over to the island where we go to ring the bell for free before heading back and calling it a day.

Oh yeah, also ciao Italy, and hello Slovenia! Im in Bled now. Its amazing. You should totally come here and see the castle perched on a cliff, the church marooned on an Island with an awesome mountain range in the background. Although the weather was less than perfect today it was still pretty amazing.
