Day-103

Because I didn’t arrive into Mostar until later than I anticipated I decided to stay one more night here. When I arrived the lovely woman running the hostel told me a bout a day trip the hostel was running which went to 4 different places around Mostar. 2 of these were places I really wanted to visit but didn’t think I would have the time to do both, so I booked in the day trip with yet another Aussie who was in my room.

The first stop was the dervish monastery which is an epic old monastery build on a river flowing from a cave under an epic cliff face.

The second stop was an amazing town build on the hillside with a fort and walls running around it. Most of the houses are now abandoned because of the war though. it was called Blagaj Fort.

The third stop was the famous Kravice waterfalls. These are like the waterfalls found in Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes National Park except you could swim under them. The water was pretty cold so we had a few beers at the bar to warm up before swimming under the falls, which were amazing. I was kicking myself I didn’t bring my go pro along as there was also a pretty awesome cliff jump too! Also there were a few water snakes swimming about and chowing down on fish which made things a bit more interesting.

After another beer and a huge lunch at the waterfalls we made our final stop at Medjugorje which is a town which jumped from a population of about 500 to 5000 practically overnight because a group of 6 teenagers claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary on the nearby hillside which turned the area into a religious pilgrimage site.

The trip was well worth the money as I am strapped for time at the moment, and there was only 4 of us so it didn’t feel like a paid tour. Our guide also gave us plenty of info about everywhere we went and a lot of info and personal stories about life in Bosnia and Mostar during and after the war.

I am assuming I don’t have to explain which stop this photo was taken at.
