Day-127

This is Butterfly Valley. There are only two ways to reach the floor of this valley which is dwarfed by 350 meter cliffs on each side. The first is to get in by boat, pretty easy and only about $7 AUD for a return ticket. The second and much more adventurous way is to get dropped off at the top of the cliffs and climb down the very steep track down to the valley.

At several points the track becomes a sheer cliff and you have to make your way down the rock faces using ropes. Its pretty awesome, and I came across a couple of people who weren’t game enough to try it. I was determined to get down though and after the first cliff I was hooked, it was so much fun. Also the views are spectacular. If you haven’t climbed down into Butterfly Valley I would argue that you haven’t really even seen it. The view from the beach and the bottom of the valley are awesome, but the views while climbing down are freaking spectacular.

Once down I checked out the waterfall at the end of the valley which also required some more rope climbing, and then chilled out with a beer at Rock Bar, aptly named because it sits atop some rocks on the side of the cliff. I also bumped into a dude I met in Cappadocia while walking along the beach.

The climb back out of the Valley was much easier. More exhausting, but much less of a mind fuck because you can actually see what you are about to climb and where exactly to put your hands feet to avoid plummeting to your death.
