Day-126

Today I arrived in Kabak Valley, a secluded little village at the very end of a road which winds through the mountains and is concentrated in a valley leading down to a small beach. I intended to buy a tent and camp somewhere in the valley, but didn’t have any luck finding one in Fethiye. So instead I arrived and found a camping ground that provided tents, sleeping gear, and breakfast and dinner all for only about $16AUD per night.

The camp is at the top of Kabak valley overlooking the beach and valley so has an amazing view but to get to the beach it is a 20 min hike down the valley, and a longer hike back up.

I decided to find some nearby waterfalls I had read about. After a few minutes of walking through the forest I spotted a few shacks, shanties, temporary bars and restaurants put together mostly with logs and tarps attached to a van or trailer. I passed a few organic farms, many a mountain goat and chickens wandering around freely and a place called “Nirvana Art Camp”. I had heard this place was very untouched and a bit hippy-ish and I definitely agree.

After hiking the hour to the waterfall and performing some pretty crazy acrobatics to try and get a photo of a stupid dragonfly I attempted to take the difficult path back down, but soon realised that I definitely didn’t have the correct shoes for the job (I was wearing my Flippity Floppies) so had to backtrack and then take the same path back down.

As the sun was setting there were a bunch of people playing music on the beach, bongo drums and digeriee doos and all. I couldn’t hang around for long though as I had to make it to the top of the valley for dinner and before the sun disappeared. I managed to get stuck on the wrong side of the only fence in the valley but found my way back to my camp just as the sun was setting.

By the time I got back for dinner I was pretty wrecked. And this is my camping spot, pretty epic if I do say so myself.
