This afternoon I left Meteora behind and made my way to the student city of Ionannina to visit my buddy Lina who I met in Barcelona, and then again in Lisbon. Before I left I went for a hike around the bottom on Meteora to see the little houses built into the rocks and cliffs where the Hermits used to live. It didn’t take as long as I expected so I ended up hiking another few trails and returned to catch my bus 3 hours later.
This is a photo I snapped while hiking a trail that wasn’t really a trail, and I almost tripped over several tortoises. Even if this place didn’t have the monasteries perched on top of its spires, and was cave-less and hermit-houseless I am sure you will agree it is an amazing landscape.
So long Meteora you wonderful magical place!
