I finished up my root canal treatment this morning. Total cost = $147 AUD. I finished the treatment earlier than expected so I decided to pack up and leave Sofia today. For a few days prior to arriving in Bulgaria I had used Couch Surfing to try and round up some people to head out to a particular monument hidden in the mountains.
As I sat in the common room of my hostel emailing another couch surfing traveller interested in joining me I struck up a conversation with Michael from the UK who was sitting across from me. Soon after returning our attention back to our inter-web connected devices, Michael started shouting out “Chris” across the common room. I had mentioned which hostel I was staying at and it turned out the dude I had been emailing back and fourth for the past few days was Michael who was sitting right in front of me for the past hour and a half.
While laughing about the coincidence we prepared to hitch hike to Veliko Turnovo which is close to the monument we are both desperate to see. Unfortunately we were advised against hitching to Veliko Turnovo to ended up catching the slow bus there.
When we arrived at the hostel in Veliko Turnovo we were also advised that the hostel had stopped taking groups out to the the monument due to issues with the police. So the rest of the evening was spent drinking and attempting to figure out plan B’s, C’s and D’s to get to the Monument tomorrow.
Today I was pretty distracted by the dentist and getting to the monument so I only took a couple of quick street photos in the morn.
