Day-196

So unsurprisingly my taxi to Holguin fell through. Plan B was to catch the local transport 2 hours to the small industrial city of Moa and then change to another transport the extra 4 hours to Holguin.

The local transport can range from tractors, cars, trucks, horse and carts. both times however I was put in the back of a jeep retrofitted with bench seats which hold 9-12 people in the tiny compartment. The drivers absolutely gun these things along the deteriorated roads filled with potholes, rocks, corrugation and bogs.

I had been down a part of the road between Baracoa and Moa a few days earlier so I knew that the ride was going to be pretty uncomfortable and sure enough my arse was pretty dang sore afterwards, but the saving of time, money and getting to ride with the locals was well worth it.

In Cuba I have been getting my current Casa Particular to book in my next one before arrival. However this time I decided to find one myself so I could negotiate a better price. I found one and managed to get the price down to $18 per night which isn’t a bad deal.
