These are some of the missiles from the Cuban Missile Crisis which almost lead to world war 3 back in the 1960’s. They are on display on a grassy hill behind the fortress and cheekily pointed toward the USA.
For our last full day/night in Cuba we also ticked off the Chocolate Museum, Havana Club Rum Museum and stocked up on Rum and Cuban Cigars. We spent New years wandering the near deserted streets and bar hopping then watched the midnight canons fire from the malecon. We didn’t know what to expect for a Havana new years but unsurprisingly the biggest events seemed to be the hotels putting on entertainment and banquets for outrageous prices.
