Day-248

Happy Australia Day! So Australia Day falls on a Sunday this year huh? Well that’s too bad for every Australian currently in Ecuador such as myself, because as we found out recently alcohol cannot be sold on Sundays anymore unless it is in a restaurant with a meal! I put the word out on couchsurfing to see if anything was happening in this small city, but after no response, not a single Aussie in sight and a Sunday booze ban our Australia Day was bound to be spent sober.

Our Australia Day activities ended up being about the furtherest from Australian that you could get. We visited Ingapirca, which are the largest and most important Incan ruins in Ecuador about 2 hours from Cuenca. This is a photo of the Sun Temple inside the ruins. These are the first of many Incan ruins we are probably going to be visiting over the next 3-4 weeks in Peru. When we got back to Cuenca we organised our Overnight bus to Peru for Monday night and then tried to find some sort of Australian(ish) food to celebrate Australia Day, however we came across an Indian restaurant and couldn’t resist… Well I guess I do eat a lot of Indian food back home, so it’s close enough.
