Day-252

More ancient Peruvian mud brick pyramids! These pyramids are a bit further outside of Chiclayo than the ones we visited yesterday, and there are only 3 of them, however this site was much better than the huge popular complex of pyramids for several reasons.

1. These pyramids contain excavated sites which have been left open so you can see exactly where items and tombs were found.

2. Because of the excavation work on these pyramids you can actually see the individual mud bricks inside the structures. The Pyramids yesterday looked more like sand drip castles with no cutouts to show the inner layers.

3. This site actually allowed you to climb up to the top of one of the Pyramids and we soon discovered that the ancient Lambeyeque people mixed in their broken pottery with the mud bricks. We spent ages foraging around and finding different pieces of pottery, some with paintings and even some engraved pieces of patterned pottery!

… I think maybe I watched too much Discovery, history and national Geographic as a kid because I was really excited by this. I mean its not gold, but hey.
