Mmmm, delicious Guinea pig (Cuy Frito). This is a delicacy in Peru, Ecuador and Columbia too. Its a little pricey compared to other dishes as expected and I don’t think I would order it again for that fact, but it wasn’t too bad. It smelled and tasted a tiny but like fish which was odd, but tasted more like stringy chicken. Viv and I had agreed to eat half of the dish each, but after two bites Viv was almost gaging just from the idea of eating a cute little fur ball and seeing it splayed out and fried on the plate, so I had to eat the whole thing after that.
We ate this little fur ball in the city of Cajamarca which was a 6 hour bus ride from Chiclayo through some endless deserts, around a massive lake, up some winding mountains, through some clouds and sitting in a valley 2,700m above sea level. We didn’t have time to do much else by the time we arrived and found a hostel, but we took a walk around the city which seems pretty cool with a lot to see and do.
