Day-259

Chan Chan. This is huge Chimu city ruin which spans over 14km on the outskirts of Trujillo but only one of the huge administration buildings has been excavated and partially open to the public, and this much has taken the archaeologists about 50 years.

The ruins are amazing, however unlike the ruins yesterday, sections of this one have been partially restored and pretty much all of the colour has disappeared from the walls. Which is surprising since these ruins are actually newer than the awesome colourful pyramid we saw yesterday.

The diamond patterned walls inside this gigantic pre-Incan ruin represent fishing nets and also used to act as a cooling/ventilation system for the huge complexes which were built right by the ocean in the Peruvian Desert. There are many other patterns lining the walls including fish, birds, squirrels and more however these patterns below the fishing nets obviously predict the rise of the Atari and 8-bit video games.
