Im so delirious with exhaustion right now. Last night we boarded our 18 hour overnight bus from Ica to Cusco. We booked in with a company called “Cruz Del Sur” which is nicknamed the gringo bus here in Peru because it is expensive and well, mostly only gringos use it. Without any other options we reluctantly booked a ticket which cost about 3 times more than a bus ride of the same length would cost in the North of Peru.
The bus has big comfy leather reclining seats, in-bus entertainment tablets, blankets and pillows. The other two busses like this we have taken in the North have been the best nights sleep I have ever had on moving transport, but last night was anything but a good night sleep.
Mostly due to people vomiting during the night from motion and altitude sickness, a screaming baby who went off at least every hour and some dude who somehow went to sleep with his light and in-bus tablet blaring light brighter than the sun directly into everyones eyes behind him. On top of this the bus driver wasnt slowing down for any corners going up the winding alps, and almost had people flying out of their seats. So we were woken by every sense except taste.
With about 2 hours sleep under my belt the entire afternoon in Cusco was a bit of a blur. We checked in, ate food, went shopping for some necessities and then wondered between some of the literally hundreds of tour agencies dotted about trying to figure out what to do with our time here. Cusco seems like a nice city, green, has tonnes to see and do, but if you come here prepared to be hassled by street touts more than anywhere else in Peru.
In this hazy dazy afternoon I didn’t end up taking a single photo, so this photo is a half arsed photo I took at our hostel before passing out. Tomorrow I plan to be more motivated after a good nights sleep.
