Day-271

Saksaywaman ruins. These Incan ruins are a jumble of natural eroded rock tunnels, some bizarre wavy rock formations that form multiple ancient stone slides, alpacas, llamas, huge stone walls and ruins of buildings and temples all overlooking Cusco city below.

There are so many archeological runs in and around Cusco and because everyone flocks to Cusco to go to Machu Picchu the government has created a “tourist” ticket for most of the archeological sites around Cusco, which means if you want to just see one of these awesome ruins you have to buy the whole ticket which gets you into another 12 or so sites. For us its no problem because we plan to see all of them over the next week or so, but if you were short on time you might find yourself having to fork out 70-130 soles just to see one or two ruins which kinda sucks.

After visiting Saksaywaman for about 4 hours we went to restaurant we had read about not far from the ruins. The description said it had a panoramic view of Cusco, so we decided to hang out there and watch the sunset. The owners of the restaurant were really nice. They weren’t open, but they opened the doors just for us, as it turned out that in the low season they usually only opened with reservations. The view was amazing and overlooked the whole city we also got to know the owner of the restaurant and she told us all about Cusco and other parts of Peru.
