This is the unusual landscape of Maragua crater just outside of Sucre, Bolivia. The whole “crater” is lined by some strange arced rock formations that have been pushed up on a 45 degree angle all the way around. A lot of tour companies claim the crater is from an ancient volcano, but it is in fact just a geological formation and not volcanic in origin at all.
The owner of the hostel got us in contact with his mate from holland who owns a jeep and took us out to this massive crater in the Bolivian countryside for the day. We were planning on taking a guided tour to the crater but the tour companies charge different prices depending on how many people are going so instead 4 of us from the hostel decided it would be better to just take the jeep for the day instead. The drive took all day because of the poor conditions of the roads but the landscapes and views were well worth it. Inside the massive crater there are a few tiny villages and there are also some ghost villages which were a little creepy but pretty cool.
