Day trip to Monasterio de Sant Miquel del Fai Take 2. So after being booted of the bus the day before I was determined to get there no matter what. Luckily Jenny decided to skip class today so she could come, so today I had backup in the form of 3 cute russian girls who were learning Spanish. The bus driver was the same dude who kicked me off the day before, but this time I had no troubles boarding the bus at all. The old throw a cute russian girl at the grumpy bus driver trick works every time haha.
So I didn’t really have a clear idea of how to reach this monastery as there isn’t much info about it in english. All I knew was where the bus dropped us, and a point on google maps about 3km into the hills. So we got off the bus and headed down the only road going in that direction.
Eventually we ended up at in a canyon the base of the monastery with no idea of how to actually reach it. That didn’t really bother us too much though because at the base of the cliffs were a series of caves, swimming holes and waterfalls! The best thing was that Jenny had never seen a waterfall before.
After a while I was determined to reach the top though. I had come so far not to get there. We only had about 1 hour until our bus went back to Barcelona but I noticed a little trail heading into the shrubs and was certain that it would come out at the monastery on top. So the four of us began climbing as fast as we could. Halfway up however two of the girls were exhausted and Jenny and I had to leave them behind and race to the top.
When we made it to the top we decided to skip the next bus and explore the monastery properly since we had come so far. It was pretty awesome, although the waterfall which usually flows over the top of it was dry because it was so hot. There were other waterfalls you could walk behind, some caves and awesome views of the gorge and valley below and was definitely worth it.
