Day-112

This is my couchsurfing host Darko on the set for his next short film. He graciously put shooting on hold for a couple of days to host me, hang out, show me around Nis and drink Beer and/or Rakija every night. We didn’t get home until the wee hours again so today only had time to take a few shots on set before I had to go into town to catch my bus to Sofia, Bulgaria.

I arrived in Sofia with another traveler I met on the bus who happened to be going to the same hostel, so we decided to split a taxi. I had been warned about dodgy taxi drivers who charge outrageous prices for taxi’s and after our driver tried to sell me a Samsung Galaxy S2 I caught him pumping up the fare every time he changed gears. Even though he didn’t really speak english I asked why the meter was suddenly jumping up sharply and he responded in a nervous “Dang, I have been caught” sort of tone.

When we got to the hostel he asked me for 20 lev (it should be no more than 5). After some bartering back and forth we settled on 10 lev, which is still more than it should have been, but in the scale of things it wasn’t much money to us and I was sick of bargaining.

After finally checking in with the quite obviously high hostel staff in Sofia I went out for a few drinks in a hidden bar and funky apartment bar with some lovely Bulgarian girls who I had met in Belgrade, one of which works for the free walking tour which I am doing tomorrow before heading to Istanbul.
