Because I only 9 days until I fly out to Cuba I spent last night researching accommodation, transportation and downloading a shiteload of ebooks, Spanish learning apps and maps. While doing so I had my first encounter with bedbugs! I noticed one on my bed, and when I inspected closely I found 3 more of the little bastards. I shook all of my clothes out, told the owner who promptly gave me a free night and moved me to another room.
When I woke this morning I was free of any bites so it seems like the bugs were confined to one bed/room. The sun was finally out and I took it as a sign to head back to Budapest. Because the weather had cleared up I decided to give the finger to the overpriced and slow train and thumb from Pecs to Budapest with some pointers from a Couchsurfer I had been in contact with.
After hitching a ride to an intersection on the outskirts of town I crafted a sign using a paper bag and it was only about a 10 minute wait until a nice Hungarian electrical engineer named Keszthely picked me up. Keszthely lives in Budapest and had just ben to visit his parents in the countryside. The journey took almost half as long as the train did to get to Pecs a few days prior and Keszthely had some good advice on other things to see and do in Hungary so it was a good choice. I also had time for another selfie. Please note beard length and colour.
