The Tiwanaku Ruins. This will probably be our last ancient ruin site in South America as we start to head South towards ruin-less Chile. Tiwanaku is considered one of the most important civilisations prior to the Incan Empire, Tiwanaku was the ritual and administrative capital of a major civilisation which spanned from Peru to Chile and lasted more than 500 years (while the Incan civilisation lasted less than 100 years). These ruins have been restored somewhat, but there are several of these giant unrestored sculptures throughout the ruins which are pretty cool and a wee bit different.
After we returned I went hunting for a new sleeping bag and came across a street overflowing with huge camping stores. They stocked everything you would ever need… except of course, my beloved and sorely missed bota bag 🙁 Tonight we hop on another overnight bus to Sucre in the South where we will go dinosaur hunting and silver mining.
